Chelmsford Public School District Students Share in the Thrill of Coding
CHELMSFORD, MA — In December 2021 Chelmsford Public Schools participated in the worldwide coding initiative in all schools Grades K-12 giving students the opportunity to experience the thrill of coding during Chelmsford’s 2021 Hour of Code Celebration!
The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code”, to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. Check out the tutorials and activities. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide.
During the week, students will have the opportunity to further their learning of the basics of computer science. Computers are everywhere, and these basics help nurture creativity, problem-solving skills, and prepare our students for any future career. Students in grades K through 8 will be participating in the code week event. At Chelmsford High School, students will be invited to the library for coding activities.
The Chelmsford Public Schools was chosen by Code.org to launch a partnership which will expand our current teaching of coding to Kindergarten. The partnership will provide teachers with professional development to help students in grades K-5 learn about computer science in a format that is fun and accessible.
“Teaching students how to code augments their skill set, whether they are college or career bound,” Superintendent Jay Lang said. “In an economy that is growing with digital computing technologies, coding is a crucial skill; one that all students should have an opportunity to learn.”
