Chelmsford High School Announces April 2023 Students of the Month

CHELMSFORD, MA (Apr. 13, 2023) – Six seniors were recently honored as Chelmsford High School named its Lions Pride/Rotary Student of the Month recipients for the month of April, announced CHS Principal Stephen Murray.

Seniors Olivia Hall and Maeve Slattery were named from Emerson House while Abigail Kamara and Liam Martin were honored from Hawthorne House, and Chance Drewicz and Analia O’Connor-Carinao from Whittier House.

Sponsored by the Chelmsford Rotary Club for more than 30 years, the Student of the Month program recognizes outstanding students from each of CHS’s three academic houses – Emerson House, Hawthorne House, and Whittier House – for their achievements in and out of the classroom.

Olivia Hall

A fixture among athletics and campus involvement, Ms. Hall is currently engrossed in rigorous coursework including Criminal Justice, Quantitative Reasoning and Problem Solving, Architectural Drawing and Unified Physical Education among several others.

A three-sport athlete in soccer, indoor track and field and lacrosse, Ms. Hall helped the CHS lacrosse team to a pair of stellar seasons the last two years, which included a bid to the MIAA Division 1 Tournament Round of 16 and the MIAA North Section Championship and semifinal appearance in 2021. The CHS girls’ lacrosse team is currently 3-1 entering Friday’s clash at Methuen (5 p.m.).

Ms. Hall also served as captain of the indoor track and field team in the winter.

Ms. Hall is involved in several clubs and is interning with the PAVE program (Providing Academic and Vocational Education), working alongside the CHS special education staff. She is also a member of the Freshmen Mentors Program, Best Buddies, and the Unified Athletics Team.

Ms. Hall will attend Merrimack College in the fall where she plans to study social work or special education while continuing her lacrosse career. She is the daughter of Chris and Marianne Hall.

Maeve Slattery

A member of the National Honor Society, Ms. Slattery has emerged a mentor and leader on the CHS campus. She is currently enrolled in four AP courses including Spanish Language and Culture, Literature and Composition, Psychology and Government along with Calculus and Honors Physics.

Underscoring her mentorship and leadership skills, Ms. Slattery is the vice president of the Best Buddies program and works with the Freshmen Mentors program. Off campus, she has studied Kung Fu for 11 years and now enjoys teaching it to others. She is also an avid piano player.

Undecided on postgraduate plans, Ms. Slattery is the daughter of James and Lisa Slattery.

Abigail Kamara

A member of three national honor societies – the NHS, English and Science – Ms. Kamara is a High Honor Roll student and was recently recognized by The College Board’s Big Future National Recognition Program for her involvement on and off campus.

Ms. Kamara is currently enrolled in five AP courses: English Literature and Composition, Spanish Language and Culture, Statistics, Psychology and Environmental Science, as well as Calculus and MoneySmart.

Highlighting her involvement, Ms. Kamara is a founding member of the Black Student Union and has served with the Freshmen Mentors program for two years. Along with completing many service projects through her national honor society involvement, she volunteers with the Chelmsford Public Library.

Though yet to decide on a college, Ms. Kamara is planning to study business. She is the daughter of Juliah Kimani.

Liam Martin

A leader as an athlete and club member, Mr. Martin is a member of the National Honor Society and currently enrolled in challenging courses such as Ap Psychology, AP Biology, Calculus, and Biotechnology among others. He has been a fixture on the CHS Honor Roll throughout his high school tenure.

A three-sport athlete, Mr. Martin is a two-year captain of the ski team and is also a member of the golf and lacrosse teams, the latter of which he helped to the MIAA Division I Tournament Round of 16 a year ago. Currently, the CHS lacrosse team is 2-2 entering Friday’s home match against Methuen (5 p.m.).

Off the athletic fields, Mr. Martin is an executive board member of the Freshman Mentors program and involves himself in the services projects of the National Honor Society. He also volunteers with the TOP Soccer Program, a training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities.

Mr. Martin will attend Wentworth Institute of Technology in the fall where he plans to major in biomedical engineering and continue his lacrosse career. He is the son of Brad and Lisa Martin.

Chance Drewicz

An inductee in three national honor societies – NHS, World Language and English – Ms. Drewicz has thrived with the responsibilities of three sports, several club commitments, and the rigors of challenging classes. She is currently enrolled in AP Statistics, AP Art and Drawing, Precalculus and Graphic Design among others.

Ms. Drewicz also serves as the vice president of the Freshmen Mentors program and is active with the GIVE Club and the American Sign Language (ASL) Club. Athletically, she is a decorated member of the volleyball and track and field teams. A four-year volleyball standout, she earned All-Merrimack Valley Conference honors as well as all-star billing from The Sun in leading CHS to an 11-9 record and a bid to the MIAA Division I Tournament.

Ms. Drewicz was named the Field Athlete of the Year by the CHS indoor track and field team and has served as captain of both teams.

Outside of school, Ms. Drewicz has volunteered her time with Cambridge Tang Soo Do Martial Arts School as a teacher as well as with The Paul Center’s annual spring cleanup.

Ms. Drewicz is the daughter of James and Noelle Drewicz.

Analia O’Connor-Carinao

A member of the NHS and Science National Honor Society, Ms. O’Connor-Carinao is currently taking Senior Odyssey (dual enrollment), AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology and Honors International Relations among other challenging courses.

Along with the demands of a three-sport athlete, Ms. O’Connor-Carinao is the co-founder of the CHS Book Club and works with the Lion’s Den Pre-School at CHS. She is also a member of Interact and the GIVE Club, both of which require significant commitment to volunteerism to CHS and the community.

Outside of CHS, Ms. O’Connor-Carinao volunteers with TOP Soccer, the CHS Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), and the Seed of Hope Foundation. As a freshman, she was part of an effort to manufacture more than 10,000 face shields at the start of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Ms. O’Connor-Carinao is a member of the cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams. Though undecided on a college, she plans to major in psychology and to become a mental health counselor.

She is the daughter of Mike O’Connor and Nayade Carinao.
