CHELMSFORD — School Committee incumbents Maria Santos and John Moses both won reelection to their respective seats against challenger Doreen Deshler in Tuesday’s local election.

Santos was the top vote-getter in this race with 3,149 votes according to the unofficial tally released by the Town Clerk’s Office. Moses received 2,905 votes while Deshler received 1,200.

In a phone call Monday morning, Moses said he was “grateful to the people of the town of Chelmsford.”

“I think the vote reflected the values of the town. As a committee, going forward we are going to work together for the best outcomes we can get for the students,” said Moses. “I also think it was important for people to see a contrast between the views of Maria and I compared to other views out there, in regards to things like inclusivity. I think it was good for that conversation to happen in front of the public.”

Santos said in a Wednesday morning phone call she was also “extremely grateful” to the Chelmsford voters and appreciative of the support. This will be Santos’ third term, and she said this race felt a little different from past elections, as she sensed a level of division that hadn’t been present before.
